Founded in 2014, Oliver Roberts Jewellery was born from a heartfelt desire to create meaningful keepsakes for loved ones. With a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering from Swansea University, Oliver brings together technical expertise and a deep passion for craftsmanship.
Raised in the rolling hills of Shropshire, Oliver found endless inspiration in the natural beauty that surrounded him. His love for hands-on projects from building beehives to crafting garden benches, nurtured a creative spirit that now flows into every piece he makes.

Recycled Silver Commitment
What is recycled silver or Ecosilver?
Ecosilver offers a sustainable choice for silversmiths, crafted from 100% recycled sterling silver. This eco-friendly option repurposes old jewellery, medical apparatus, electronics, and giftware, transforming them into new wire, sheet, grain, and solder without sacrificing purity. Recycled silver maintains the same high quality as its newly mined counterpart, yet significantly reduces environmental impact.
Why recycled silver makes a huge difference
When silver is not recycled, it is newly mined.Only +-30% of silver comes from actual silver mines.The remaining 70% comes from projects where silver is a by-product of mining other metals, such as copper, lead and zinc and gold.
Environmental impact of silver mining
Mining causes lots of erosion, releases toxins into the air and contaminates groundwater, soil and surface water by the use of chemicals. Metal mining contributes to climate change as it requires an incredible amount of energy, not to mention the ongoing melting and processing operations which emit greenhouse gases. The landscape is often left with sinkholes and a loss of biodiversity.
Social impact of silver mining
In the countries where minerals are commonly found, companies often exploit the indigenous people by having them work for low wages and in unhealthy and dangerous conditions. Child labour in particular is a big problem in mineral mining. They work both above ground, and underground in mine shafts and tunnels where they risk death or serious injury from landslides, tunnel collapses and explosions. Plus, all the air that they breathe is filled with dust and sometimes toxic gasses.
Sourcing recycled silver for ORJ
All precious metals used by ORJ are eco or recycled metals and that have been purchased from a London Metal Bullion Association accredited supplier.
Manufacturing

Wax Model
The process starts by creating an original model of the piece. This is crafted by hand-carving wax, or a wax replica can be made using rubber molds for creating multiple copies.

Spruing
The wax model is attached to a wax tree or sprue base by means of sprue wax rods. This ensures that the molten metal can flow into the model cavity and also allows for gases to escape.

Casting
Once the burnout is complete, the flask is removed from the kiln and is now ready for casting. Molten metal is then poured into the pre-heated flask, filling the cavity left by the wax model.

Finishing
The casting will have a rough texture from the investment and will also have the remnants of the sprues attached. These are cut off, and the piece is polished and finished to the desired shine.

Polishing
Polishing removes imperfections, enhances shine, uses abrasives, buffs surfaces, restores luster, involves progression, from coarse to fine, refines appearance.
